Carpet Cleaners FAQs: Which Carpet Cleaning Method is Best?

If you’re like most homeowners, you regularly vacuum your carpets but you don’t hire professional carpet cleaners very often. For this reason, you have a few important questions to ask before you do. One we hear most often is, “Which carpet cleaning method is best?”
As your go-to carpet cleaners in the Kirkland, WA area, this is a question we are happy to answer for you. We’ll explain the methods in a little more detail so you feel comfortable booking your cleaning service.
Cleaning Method Options
When you decide to book professional carpet cleaners, you’ll want to pay close attention to how they’ll actually be cleaning your floors. Not all companies are the same, because not all methods are the same!
Carpet Shampooing
Shampooing carpets is a popular way to deep clean your floors. This method is done using a machine that holds a tank of cleaning solution or shampoo and another tank to hold the dirty water once it’s removed. A cleaning technician will apply a cleaning solution and then suck the dirty moisture back into the machine.
This method is great because shampooing carpet creates a lather that separates dirt molecules from the fibers, meaning the dirt is sucked back up into the machine. Pet owners will be happy to hear that the agitators on the base of the machine also work to strip embedded pet hairs from the tightly wound fibers. The problem is this often leaves residue behind.
Steam Cleaning
Steam cleaners work by applying superheated water using a high-pressure applicator. The combination breaks down stuck-on dirt, bacteria, and other nasty debris. Steam cleaning is believed to remove over 90% of all of the dirt and bacteria from your flooring.
Encapsulation
Lastly, let’s look at encapsulation. Encapsulation is offered in our Premium Low Moisture Package. This process works by applying a liquid or foam detergent to your carpet which crystalizes into a powder as it dries and can be vacuumed up. During the drying process, dirt is lifted from the carpet fibers and “encapsulated” into the powder, which is where the name comes from. It’s then brushed up and vacuumed for removal.
There is a lot to love about encapsulation. This method is quick to dry and considered more environmentally friendly than a lot of other options. This is due to the fact that there isn’t chemical residue left behind once the powder has been vacuumed up. Plus, it doesn’t rely on other resources like water or electricity.
Our Method of Cleaning
Green Steam Carpet Cleaners uses truck mounted steam extraction for three reasons:
#1 A truck mounted system is more powerful than a portable one. We deep clean carpets with the hot water extraction method. This is the only extraction method that is truly a deep clean! All other methods are “light surface cleaning.” They are incapable of removing soil deep in the pile.
#2 All other methods leave large amounts of cleaning products, which are often harsh chemicals, in the carpet after cleaning.
#3 We don’t use your electricity or hot water when using a truck mounted system. Our equipment is powered by a truck mounted generator and is designed to heat cold water.
